Crittenton Hospital Medical Center offers Bloodless Medicine and Surgery. This state-of-the-art program supports patients who, for personal or religious reasons, choose not to accept blood transfusions.
Any patient admitted to Crittenton may request registration in the Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program. Registration in the program will trigger a process that alerts the entire Crittenton health care team that no blood will be used. Our knowledgeable, professional team will work together throughout the patient’s hospitalization and frequently even before admission to the hospital using a variety of blood conservation strategies and techniques. This includes minimizing blood loss, recovering shed blood during surgery, and prescribing medications which increase the body’s own ability to produce more red blood cells.
