Prepared Childbirth Express

Knowing what to expect prior to the birth of your baby will go a long way towards helping prepare you and your family.  Whether you are planning to give birth naturally or with the assistance of medications, this class is designed to help an expectant mother and her support partner prepare for the birth of her baby.  For your comfort, we recommend completing this class 2-3 months before your due date.  FREE with this class, mother and baby care guide book. Information will be provided at class.  Registration includes both mom and her partner. Please bring a blanket and 2 pillows. This condensed class includes the same information covered in the 3-week series: Tips for staying comfortable at the end of pregnancy, How to know when labor begins, What to pack for the hospital, What to expect in labor through the birth of your baby, Techniques to help cope with the challenges of labor, Medical options for labor and delivery, Cesarean birth, Recovery after delivery, Normal newborns, And a tour of the Birthplace. There will be a break for lunch.  You may bring a lunch or purchase one at the cafeteria or a nearby restaurant.

Understanding Birth eClass

Can’t come to a childbirth class? We’ll bring it to you! Consider the Understanding Birth eClass your go-to guide for answers you can trust on childbirth. This interactive online course covers essential information on labor and more, and highlights ways partners can help throughout the process. You’ll also get a sense of what labor is really like as you watch several birth stories. You’ll even have an opportunity to create your own birth plan! You can access the eClass from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. Allow 4-6 hours to complete. Once you register for this class, you will receive an e-mail within 2-3 business days with a link to access your class.

Preparing for Breastfeeding Class

Breastfeeding provides the best nutrition for infants as well as a unique relationship between mother and baby.  This class will answer your questions and help you get off to the best possible start as a nursing mother. A registered nurse/certified lactation consultant teaches the class.  Registration includes both mom and her partner.  We recommend taking this class 2-3 months before your due date. Topics include: How to position and latch How to know if baby is eating enough What to do if you are having problems Breast care Pumping Returning to work

Prenatal Yoga 3-week series

Join a community of expectant moms to help physically, mentally & emotionally prepare for childbirth. You will learn various gentle yoga poses and breathing techniques to help create ease and comfort during pregnancy and labor. This prenatal yoga class is for women at all stages of pregnancy and any fitness level.  No previous yoga experience necessary. Please consult your physician or midwife prior to participation. Please bring a yoga mat and pillows. Class meets on 1/8, 1/15, & 1/29 (no class 1/22) Registration ends 1/6!

Big Brother & Big Sister Class

Your children may have lots of questions about your pregnancy, and a few anxieties about what life will be like with a new baby around! This special class for siblings-to-be can help them learn about the coming event in a positive way and participate fully in all the preparation. Kids will tour The Birthplace to see where mom will stay. They will watch a video, ask questions and pick up helpful pointers about caring for the newest member of the family. Suggested for children ages 3 and up. A parent/guardian must attend with the child/ren. Fee: $15 per family

Birthplace Tour

Take a tour of the Birthplace (Labor & Delivery Unit) and learn about where to go and what to bring when you are ready to deliver.  You can also check out the Birthplace Page on our website for information and to pre-register for your delivery.  Registration for the tour includes the expectant mother and her support person.  No children under the age of 15 are allowed on this tour.  Registration is required.  Meet in the main lobby. (If you have registered for a Prepared Childbirth class, you will take a tour during your class and you do not need to register for a separate Birthplace Tour)
