Tai Chi - Advanced

Tai Chi movements are low-impact and gentle.  Recent studies have found that tai chi’s slow, graceful exercise, which originated centuries ago as a martial art, can improve balance, reduce stress and offer arthritis pain relief. This Tai Chi class is for participants who have taken the course previously and want to keep up with their movements. Minimum of 4 participants required! Wear Loose and comfortable clothes, and bring water. A floor mat will not be required for this class.

1 - STOP Screening: Peripheral Vascular Disease Screening

Are you concerned about your heart health? The 1-STOP screening includes several potentially life-changing assessments such as: blood pressure, body fat analysis, weight, health risk appraisal, peripheral vascular disease screening, and lab work. The lab work includes a lipid panel (cholesterol and triglycerides), fasting blood sugar, and C-reactive protein, which may be associated with an increased risk for heart disease. Once you have completed your screening, you will discuss the results with a family medicine physician. Participants must be at least 50 years of age. This screening could change your life. Cost is $25. After registering, you will be contacted to set up an appointment time.  If preferred you may call 248.652.5269 for an appointment time.  You must have blood drawn (lab work) done a minimum of 2 days BEFORE your 1 STOP Screening appointment.

MELT 4 week series -Learn to MELT series

MELT 4 week series Class dates:  Thursday  evenings:  June 2, 9, 16 & 30, 2016 6:30pm-7:30pm $60/series In MELT classes we will use a soft MELT roller and MELT balls to help you get out of and stay out of pain, slow the signs of aging, and improve performance in other physical activities you do. In MELT we work with the connective tissue system – a system diet and exercise don’t address. Through positive compression and tension techniques, you will rehydrate your connective tissue and rebalance your nervous system resulting in improved alignment, muscle timing, and balance while reducing inflammation, joint compression and pain. If you feel stiff in the morning, have neck, back, or shoulder pain, trouble sleeping, or feel great and want to stay that way, this class is for you.  MELT is the missing link to wellness!  This MELT series is perfect for the beginner MELTer who has only taken an intro class or who has never tried MELT. MELT Rollers and MELT Hand and Foot Kits will be available for purchase from the instructor on the first day of class and are encouraged as homework and handouts will be given for at home use throughout the series. Each class will build on previous classes, introducing many of the MELT moves in the MELT Method book and some that are not in the MELT Method book. Equipment is provided for series during class.  MELT equipment is available from instructor at discounted price at first class, cash or check accepted. Shaina Thurmon RN is a certified MELT instructor trained directly under Sue Hitzmann the creator of the MELT Method. In addition please bring water to each class. All participants should be able to get on and off the floor and the roller with little difficulty. A Matter of Balance

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activites. Wellness Series: Remembering When - Fire and Fall Prevention for Older Adults

Remembering When is a program developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and its purpose is to keep older adults safe in their homes from falls and fires that can cause life altering injuries or deaths. Presented by the Rochester Hills Fire Department and Comfort Keepers, this will be a fun and interactive program presented that will be sure to provide ideas and alternatives to ensuring your safety.
