Athletic/Cardiac Screening

Screening includes a medical history and physician evaluation, orthopaedic musculoskeletal evaluation, joint range of motion flexibility tests, strength and posture screening as well as weight, height, blood pressure and vision screening. An electrocardiogram (EKG) will be performed and reviewed by a pediatric cardiologist. Based on the results from the EKG, an echocardiogram maybe performed.     Please Note: To be eligible for cardiac screening, the physical must be completed on July 30th at the Crittenton Sports Rehabilitation Center.

Dinner with a Doc: Breastfeeding…The Public Health Wonder Drug

Topic:  Breastfeeding…The Public Health Wonder Drug In the last two decades, breastfeeding has left the arena of lifestyle and has entered the public health discussion. Dr. Schreck, an expert in breastfeeding medicine and baby friendly policies, will discuss how a mothers’ feeding decision is perhaps the most important health decision that she will make. Presenter:  Paula K. Schreck MD, IBCLC, FABM attended the University of Michigan Medical School.  She completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of California, San Diego.  She is the creator and medical director of the St. John Mother Nurture Project, a WK Kellogg Foundation-supported innovative and far-reaching breastfeeding initiative that spans her urban hospital and the surrounding community.  She is also medical director and co-creator of the Mother Nurture Lactation College, a unique lactation consultant training program for minority women.  In 2012, she was named Breastfeeding Coordinator for the six-hospital St. John Providence Health System. Topic:  Radiology:  The Good, The Rad and the Revolutionary Presenter:  Katharine Scharer, MD Katharine Scharer MD General Radiology most often refers to diagnostic x-rays used to help identify disease or injury inside the body.  Radiologists are able to see inside the body to detect injury and disease, often in its early stages when the illness or injury is most treatable.  The basic radiology exams including general radiology, CT Scans, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine Scans, & PET/CT Mammography will be covered.  Radiation dose and more advanced radiology exams including 3-D breast tomosynthesis, low dose CT for lung cancer screening, CT for lung cancer screening, CT and MRI of the heart will be discussed in addition.  August 25, 2016 Light refreshments at 6:30pm provided by Great Oaks Country Club.  Image result for great oaks country club Lecture 7pm Free
