Friends & Family CPR

The Family and Friends CPR Program teaches how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants and how to help an adult, child or infant who is choking. The program is designed for family members such as new parents, grandparents, young babysitters, and generally those persons who want to learn CPR that is not needed for employment. This class is not a certification class, however a certificate of attendance is available upon request.

Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS)

This course is designed for initial/renewal of medical and other health professionals including nurses and nursing students, physicians, EMS personnel, dental and other allied health professionals who need certification for a regulatory requirement. This program covers adult, child and infant CPR; one and two rescuer CPR; foreign body airway obstruction, mouth-to-mask, bag mask and use of an automatic external defibrillator. With successful completion of a written test and demonstration of CPR skills, an American Heart Association completion card is sent by e-mail.

ACLS Provider Skills & Testing

Preparing for Breastfeeding Class

Breastfeeding provides the best nutrition for infants as well as a unique relationship between mother and baby.  This class will answer your questions and help you get off to the best possible start as a nursing mother. A registered nurse/certified lactation consultant teaches the class.  Registration includes both mom and her partner.  We recommend taking this class 2-3 months before your due date. Childbirth Education eClass (online class)

Our online childbirth class is the perfect alternative for busy parents needing a flexible class schedule or for moms on bed rest. Have you given birth before? This online class is a great refresher course! You’ll learn the same essential information as an on-site class, including what’s happening to your changing body, how you’ll know when you are really in labor, helpful comfort techniques, advice for partners, an overview of medical procedures, and much more. Breastfeeding Cafe

Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition and bonding for your infant, but it does not always come easy. A community of support from other mothers as well as trained professionals can help you meet your goals.  This monthly group, led by a certified lactation consultant, is designed to provide support and education on common breastfeeding concerns. Mothers are encouraged to bring their babies. Open to any breastfeeding mothers, regardless of location of birth.  Registration is not required for this FREE drop-in group. 1 - STOP Screening: Peripheral Vascular Disease Screening

Are you concerned about your heart health? The 1-STOP screening includes several potentially life-changing assessments such as: blood pressure, body fat analysis, weight, health risk appraisal, peripheral vascular disease screening, and lab work. The lab work includes a lipid panel (cholesterol and triglycerides), fasting blood sugar, and C-reactive protein, which may be associated with an increased risk for heart disease. Once you have completed your screening, you will discuss the results with a family medicine physician. Participants must be at least 50 years of age. This screening could change your life. Cost is $25. After registering, you will be contacted to set up an appointment time.  If preferred you may call 248.652.5269 for an appointment time.  You must have blood drawn (lab work) done a minimum of 2 days BEFORE your 1 STOP Screening appointment.

Big Brother & Big Sister Class

Your children may have lots of questions about your pregnancy, and a few anxieties about what life will be like with a new baby around! This special class for siblings-to-be can help them learn about the coming event in a positive way and participate fully in all the preparation. Kids will tour The Birthplace to see where mom will stay. They will watch a video, ask questions and pick up helpful pointers about caring for the newest member of the family. Birthplace Tour

Take a tour of the Birthplace (Labor & Delivery Unit) and learn about where to go and what to bring when you are ready to deliver.  You can also check out the Birthplace page on our website for information and to pre-register for your delivery.  Registration for the tour includes the expectant mother and her support person.  No children under the age of 15 are allowed on this tour.  Registration is required.  Meet in the main lobby. (If you have registered for a Prepared Childbirth class, you will take a tour during your class and you do not need to register for a separate Birthplace Tour)

ACLS Provider

This one day course is for Healthcare Providers needing an initial or renewal certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. The class will last approximately 8 hours and will cover all facets involving the care of an acute cardiac condition. The class meets the criteria as set forth by the American Heart Association for treating adults in cardiac arrest and other life threatening cardiac events. Upon successful completion of a written exam and MegaCode, a 2 year American Heart Association ACLS card will be issued at the end of the class. Breastfeeding Consultation

Are you having problems with breastfeeding?  Do you have questions about what is normal?  Will you be returning to work and wonder how to continue to breastfeed?  Or do you just need extra support and education to make your breastfeeding goals a reality?  Then meeting with one of our lactation consultants (IBCLCs) for a one-on-one consultation may be what you need.  This consultation will be individualized based on your needs.  The consultation will last approximately 1 hour and your insurance may also reimburse you for the cost. Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC)

Children Under 18 years of age account for approximately 34% of all emergency department (ED) visits, with children under the age of 3 representing the largest group.  The purpose of ENPC is to present core-level knowledge and psychomotor skills associated with implementing the nursing process in the care of children from birth through adolescence.  It is the intent of ENPC to enhance the nurse’s ability to rapidly and accurately assess the pediatric patient’s responses to the illness or injury event.  The skills and knowledge learned will decrease morbidity and mortality associated with pediatric emergencies and conditions. Upon successful completion of the ENPC course, all RN participants will receive 15.33 contact hours.  Participants must attend the entire course in order to receive the contact hours.  You must be successful in all testing in order to receive an ENPC provider card from the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). Heartsaver CPR & First Aid (with AED)

This 8 hour class covers the fundamental concepts regarding First Aid and CPR and is designed for people needing certification for employment. Persons who commonly take this class include teachers, personal trainers, lifeguards, and athletic coaches.  Bleeding, shock, splinting, and burns will be covered as well as adult, child, and infant CPR and use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED). An American Heart Association course completion card will be issued to participants at the end of the session.

The Family and Friends CPR Program teaches how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants and how to help an adult, child or infant who is choking. The program is designed for family members such as new parents, grandparents, young babysitters, and generally those persons who want to learn CPR that is not needed for employment. This class is not a certification class, however a certificate of attendance is available upon request.
