Heartsaver CPR with AED

This class covers adult, child and infant CPR, foreign body airway obstruction, use of mouth-to-barrier device, and automatic external defibrillator training.  The course is designed for the general community & lay responders including security guards, lifeguards, day care workers, coaches, custodians, teachers who need a credentialed CPR class but do not work in the healthcare setting. Upon successful demonstration of CPR skills, an American Heart Association completion card will be provided at the end of the program.

This two hour skills session will cover the practical component required by the American Heart Association to receive an ACLS Provider Card. Students will need to present their certificate from part one of the class and will then be tested following the prescribed criteria including Adult/Child CPR and AED use, Mega-Code testing and use of an Adult BVM. Upon successful completion, students will receive their ACLS Provider card which is valid for two years.

Childbirth Education eClass (Online class)

Our online childbirth class is the perfect alternative for busy parents needing a flexible class schedule or for moms on bed rest. Have you given birth before? Breastfeeding Cafe

Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition and bonding for your infant, but it does not always come easy. A community of support from other mothers as well as trained professionals can help you meet your goals.  This monthly group, led by a certified lactation consultant, is designed to provide support and education on common breastfeeding concerns. Tai Chi - Advanced

Tai Chi movements are low-impact and gentle.  Recent studies have found that tai chi’s slow, graceful exercise, which originated centuries ago as a martial art, can improve balance, reduce stress and offer arthritis pain relief. This Tai Chi class is for participants who have taken the course previously and want to keep up with their movements. Minimum of 4 participants required! Wear Loose and comfortable clothes, and bring water. A floor mat will not be required for this class.

1 - STOP Screening: Peripheral Vascular Disease Screening

Are you concerned about your heart health? The 1-STOP screening includes several potentially life-changing assessments such as: blood pressure, body fat analysis, weight, health risk appraisal, peripheral vascular disease screening, and lab work. The lab work includes a lipid panel (cholesterol and triglycerides), fasting blood sugar, and C-reactive protein, which may be associated with an increased risk for heart disease. Once you have completed your screening, you will discuss the results with a family medicine physician. Participants must be at least 50 years of age. This screening could change your life. Cost is $25. After registering, you will be contacted to set up an appointment time.  If preferred you may call 248.652.5269 for an appointment time.  You must have blood drawn (lab work) done a minimum of 2 days BEFORE your 1 STOP Screening appointment.

In MELT we work with the connective tissue system – a system diet and exercise don’t address. Through positive compression and tension techniques, you will rehydrate your connective tissue and rebalance your nervous system resulting in improved alignment, muscle timing, and balance while reducing inflammation, joint compression and pain. If you feel stiff in the morning, have neck, back, or shoulder pain, trouble sleeping, or feel great and want to stay that way, this class is for you.  MELT is the missing link to wellness!  This MELT series is perfect for the beginner MELTer who has only taken an intro class or who has never tried MELT. Prepared Childbirth Express

Knowing what to expect prior to the birth of your baby will go a long way towards helping prepare you and your family.  Whether you are planning to give birth naturally or with the assistance of medications, this class is designed to help an expectant mother and her support partner prepare for the birth of her baby.  For your comfort, we recommend completing this class 2-3 months before your due date.  FREE with this class, online breastfeeding and baby care class. Information will be provided at class. Please bring a blanket and 2 pillows. Red Cross Babysitter Safety Training

Taught by a certified instructor, this interactive class is designed to teach the skills of babysitting. Participants must be at least 11 years old. We recommend taking Friends & Family CPR in addition to the Babysitter training. Mommy & Me Yoga Series

Mommy & Me Yoga is a fun class for Moms to exercise after birth and enjoy time with your baby.  It’s also a great way to meet other new moms! Prenatal Yoga Series

Join a community of expectant moms to help physically, mentally & emotionally prepare for childbirth. You will learn various gentle yoga poses and breathing techniques to help create ease and comfort during pregnancy and labor. This prenatal yoga class is for women at all stages of pregnancy and any fitness level.  No previous yoga experience necessary. Tai Chi Sampler

Tai Chi movements are low-impact and gentle.  Recent studies have found that tai chi’s slow, graceful exercise, which originated centuries ago as a martial art, can improve balance, reduce stress and offer arthritis pain relief. Unsure if Tai Chi is for you?  Register for the Tai Chi Sampler and attend the first week.  If you decide that it is right for you, the registration fee will be applied to the cost of the series.

PALS Provider

The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. The course is designed for physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support pediatric emergencies. The PALS Provider program is designed for persons who have not attended a PALS program in the past or those persons who have let their certification lapse. Upon successful completion of a written exam and MegaCode, a 2 year American Heart Association certification card will be issued. Materials will be sent 1-2 weeks prior to the class.

This class covers adult, child and infant CPR, foreign body airway obstruction, use of mouth-to-barrier device, and automatic external defibrillator training.  The course is designed for the general community & lay responders including security guards, lifeguards, day care workers, coaches, custodians, teachers who need a credentialed CPR class but do not work in the healthcare setting. Upon successful demonstration of CPR skills, an American Heart Association completion card will be provided at the end of the program.

Big Brother/Big Sister Class

Your children may have lots of questions about your pregnancy, and a few anxieties about what life will be like with a new baby around! This special class for siblings-to-be can help them learn about the coming event in a positive way and participate fully in all the preparation. Kids will tour The Birthplace to see where mom will stay. They will watch a video, ask questions and pick up helpful pointers about caring for the newest member of the family. Suggested for children ages 3 and up. A parent/guardian must attend with the child/ren. Fee: $15 per family

Birthplace Tour (FREE)

Take a tour of the Birthplace (Labor & Delivery Unit) and learn about where to go and what to bring when you are ready to deliver.  You can also check out the Birthplace page on our website for information and to pre-register for your delivery.  Registration for the tour includes the expectant mother and her support person.  No children under the age of 15 are allowed on this tour.  Registration is required.  Meet in the main lobby.

Friends & Family CPR

The Family and Friends CPR Program teaches how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants and how to help an adult, child or infant who is choking. The program is designed for family members such as new parents, grandparents, young babysitters, and generally those persons who want to learn CPR that is not needed for employment. Remembering When is a program developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and its purpose is to keep older adults safe in their homes from falls and fires that can cause life altering injuries or deaths. Presented by the Rochester Hills Fire Department and Comfort Keepers, this will be a fun and interactive program presented that will be sure to provide ideas and alternatives to ensuring your safety.
