Breastfeeding Café

Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition and bonding for your infant, however, it does not always come easy.  Some mothers may need more support and education about breastfeeding.

This group meets weekly with a certified Lactation Consultant to discuss common breastfeeding concerns, answer your specific questions, and meet with other mothers that are experiencing the same things.  This informal meeting is not a class or an individual consultation; however, the Lactation Consultant will provide you with support and education.  Individual consultations are available by appointment for a fee.

Heartsaver CPR with AED

This 4 hour class covers adult, child and infant CPR, foreign body airway obstruction, use of mouth-to-barrier device, and automatic external defibrillator training.  The course is designed for the general community & lay responders including security guards, lifeguards, day care workers, coaches, custodians, teachers who need a credentialed CPR class but do not work in the healthcare setting. Upon successful demonstration of CPR skills, an American Heart Association completion card will be provided at the end of the program.

Big Brother - Big Sister Class

Your children may have lots of questions about your pregnancy, and a few anxieties about what life will be like with a new baby around! This special class for siblings-to-be can help them learn about the coming event in a positive way and participate fully in all the preparation. Kids will tour The Birthplace to see where mom will stay. They'll hear a story, ask questions and practice holding a baby. They will also pick up helpful pointers about caring for the newest member of the family. Suggested for children ages 3 and up. Cost is $15 per family.

Erase pain and tension in your hands, feet, neck, and low back brought on by everyday stress, overuse, and age.  This simple self-treatment can make your whole body feel better and provide relief from neck and low back pain, arthritis, bunions, plantar fasciitis, and carpal tunnel syndrome.  Join MELT instructor Shaina Thurmon, RN,BSN for an introduction to the MELT Hand & Foot Treatment.  Learn how the connective tissue in your hands and feet gets dehydrated, the common aches and pains it can cause, and how to rehdyrate this essential system in our bodies for vibrant health and pain-free movenment.  Equipment will be provided.  Kits will be available to purchase after the class.  This is an INTRO session. 

Wear comfortable clothing.  Foot treatment is done barefoot.  Please bring water to drink for hydration.

Birthplace Tour

American Red Cross Babysitter Training

Taught by a trained registered nurse, this 6 hour class is designed to teach the skills of babysitting including basic child-care, age-appropriate activities, safety, discipline and more . Participants must be at least 11 years old and must attend the full class. We recommend taking Friends & Family CPR in addition to the Babysitter training. Certificates are e-mailed at the completion of class. Participants are to be dropped off and picked up directly from the classroom. Please bring a doll or stuffed animal to practice diapering. Online Childbirth Class - Register anytime!

Our online childbirth class is ideal for busy, expectant parents.  The eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities, and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their birth.  This class is competed in your own home at your convenience.  A tour of the hospital and a session with a childbirth instructor is included, but must be scheduled.  Once registered, participants will receive an email with a link to the class as well as additional information within 2-3 days.  You will have access to the website for 60 days from your first login.

1 - STOP Screening: Peripheral Vascular Disease Screening

Are you concerned about your heart health?

The 1-STOP screening includes several potentially life-changing assessments such as: blood pressure, body fat analysis, weight, health risk appraisal, peripheral vascular disease screening, and lab work. The lab work includes a lipid panel (cholesterol and triglycerides), fasting blood sugar, and C-reactive protein, which may be associated with an increased risk for heart disease. Once you have completed your screening, you will discuss the results with a family medicine physician. Participants must be at least 50 years of age. This screening could change your life.

Cost is $25. After registering, you will be contacted to set up an appointment time.  If preferred you may call 248.652.5269 for an appointment time.  You must have blood drawn (lab work) done a minimum of 2 days BEFORE your 1 STOP Screening appointment.

This ongoing group is designed for parents and their babies, between 3 to 6 months age. The group is facilitated by leader with expertise in children and parenting. Each meeting will consist of information about parenting, growth and development, and safety as well as time to network with other parents. Prepared Childbirth Series

This interactive 4-week series of classes covers all the basics and is a must for first-time moms! Young Expectant Parent Class

This class is specifically designed for young women (ages 20 and under) who are expecting their first baby.  This class will prepare the expectant mother for labor and delivery.  We will also provide guidance on pregnancy, parenting and available resources.  Class should be completed between the 24th to 34th week of pregnancy.  Expectant mothers are encouraged to bring one or two support people.  Please bring a blanket, pillows, and snacks/drinks for the day. ACLS Skills Session

This course is designed to meet part two (practice) and part three (testing) of the American Heart Association Heartcode ACLS on-line program. This two hour skills session will cover the practical component required by the American Heart Association to receive an ACLS Provider Card. Breastfeeding Café

Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition and bonding for your infant, however, it does not always come easy.  Some mothers may need more support and education about breastfeeding.

This group meets weekly with a certified Lactation Consultant to discuss common breastfeeding concerns, answer your specific questions, and meet with other mothers that are experiencing the same things.  This informal meeting is not a class or an individual consultation; however, the Lactation Consultant will provide you with support and education.  Individual consultations are available by appointment for a fee.

Prepared Childbirth Express

This condensed Childbirth class covers the most important information in the Childbirth Series on one Saturday. About two to three months before your due date, you should begin Prepared Childbirth classes.  Registration includes the expectant mother and her support person.  Please bring a blanket and 2 pillows.  You may also bring snacks and drinks.
