Crittenton Foundation donors Dr. James and Mrs. Ruth Huebner are wonderful examples of giving from the heart. The couple makes annual donations to provide Crittenton’s Nurse of the Year, as well as the first and second runners up, with a monetary prize. “I hope that by honoring excellence, we are playing some small part in making nurses feel special,” Dr. Huebner, a retired Crittenton physician, told me during a recent conversation. “I met many outstanding nurses throughout my career. Their job is often challenging, but they work tirelessly because they care.” Though they no longer live in Michigan, the Huebners consider Rochester home. They plan to continue their philanthropic support to ensure that Crittenton – and our nurses – are here for our community for years to come.
As we navigate a new era of healthcare, we are so appreciative that we have donors like Dr. and Mrs. Huebner to be our champions and supporters. With our community’s needs growing and reimbursements diminishing, our hospital’s future depends on philanthropic support. There is an old but very true adage used in the field of fundraising: people give to people. There is a story behind every donation – and many involve the care and compassion provided by our physicians, nurses and other members of the Crittenton family.
