ROCHESTER, MICHIGAN – July 25, 2013 – The Crittenton Foundation announced today that it has received a $2,500 CVS Caremark Community Grant. The Community Grants Program was created by CVS Caremark as part of its commitment to helping people on the path to better health by creating greater access to health care and health education for at-risk and underserved populations. The support from CVS Caremark will help the Crittenton Wellness Center at the Older Persons Commission (OPC). This off-site clinic offers health services such as screenings, resources and education for seniors in our community. The Center’s walk-in Ask a Nurse and Ask a Doctor programs answer individual health questions, perform risk appraisals and tests, make pharmacy calls and help track prescriptions.
By providing ongoing care as needed, Crittenton aims to improve the wellness of our senior population. The mission of the Crittenton Foundation is for the advancement of health programs and services to save lives and promote wellness. This includes providing health services within the context of our community, beyond the traditional setting of the hospital. The Crittenton Wellness Center at the OPC is an innovative model for expanding access to comprehensive care while also enabling individuals to assume a greater role in maintaining their own wellness through health education.
“We are so grateful to receive our first Community Grant from CVS Caremark for the Crittenton Wellness Center at the OPC. This collaborative investment by all three partners: CVS Caremark, Crittenton Hospital Medical Center and the OPC will ensure we can continue to make a difference for the health and wellness of seniors in our community,” says Melinda Conway Callahan, President, Crittenton Foundation.
“As a pharmacy innovation company, we are committed to helping people on their path to better health and supporting organizations that reduce barriers and increase access to quality health care services to at-risk and underserved populations,” said Hanley Wheeler, Senior Vice President, CVS/Pharmacy West Operations. “We are proud to support the work that Crittenton does in the community and we look forward to working with them in fulfilling their program’s mission.”
The Crittenton Foundation was selected to receive a grant through the CVS Caremark Community Grants 2013 application process. Grants were awarded to organizations that support CVS Caremark’s mission to enhance the health and well-being for at-risk and underserved populations by offering quality health and rehabilitation services and health education. The goal of the CVS Caremark Community Grants Program is to provide relief for both adults and children who lack medical insurance and help ensure they receive the proper medical care they need.
