Special Delivery – A Drive Through Birth

On Wednesday April 20, Crittenton received a very special delivery just after 10 a.m. It was a bouncing baby boy. What made this delivery so unique was not who it was, but rather where it occurred: the parking lot near the Emergency entrance.
According to the nurses on staff, the mother was actively delivering and there was not time to get her inside the hospital. Emergency Department Nurses Vera Bodnaruk, Marge Haglund, Ivana Gavrilovic, Hilda Lal, Dean Shiff, Donna Ostrowski and Dr. Loniewski were working in the Emergency Department that morning. They called up to Labor and Delivery for help. Registered Nurses Bev Browning and Anne Lippert answered the call, together with help from Toni Futo from respiratory therapy and Dr. Rao, neonatologist.
“This is one we never rehearsed for, and frankly we learned a few things. Still it is gratifying that the teams from the Emergency Department and Labor and Delivery were able to work together and produce such a terrific outcome,” said Deb King, nurse manager.
