In 2010, Crittenton Hospital acquired the Siemens MAGNETOM Aera magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system.
This MRI system is the most advanced unit of its kind and received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2010. While MRI units have been known to be uncomfortable for claustrophobic and obese patients, the
MAGNETOM Aera features 70-centimeter open bore to make imaging procedures more comfortable than ever before. The system features Illumination MoodLight and an intercom so patients can easily communicate with the technologist about any concerns during the exam.
A video camera also allows the technologist to monitor patients for any signs of discomfort or complications. Because MRI uses magnetic fields to obtain clear images of structures within the body, patients are not exposed to radiation and can receive accurate diagnoses for conditions such as brain aneurysms, stroke, tumors, tendonitis, and spinal problems, among many others. With the new technology, Crittenton physicians are now able to provide more accurate diagnoses, which helps to ensure patients receive the treatment they need as soon as possible.
