Joint Replacement

As a leader in joint replacement surgeries, Crittenton is proud to have received the designation as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip ReplacementSM in 2010 from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

For patients, this designation signifies high standards and proven outcomes, distinguishing Crittenton as a place of excellence.

“Blue Cross Blue Shield recognizes facilities that meet objective, evidence-based thresholds for clinical quality,” says Julie Kress, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, Nurse Manager of the Joint Replacement Center and Medical Surgical Unit at Crittenton. “Our clinical outcomes are the best in the state. The Blue Distinction award helps consumers and physicians find medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in areas of specialty care, such as total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements.”

FOCUSED ON YOU

Crittenton has a special unit for patients who undergo joint replacement surgery. With a team of orthopaedic specialists on staff, the Joint Replacement Center offers the latest minimally invasive techniques to promote less scarring and reduce complications for patients.

“We’ve developed a program so that treatments and medications are implemented most effectively,” says Jeffrey DeClaire, MD, Chief of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Crittenton. “To be designated a Blue Distinction Center, our staff completes an annual competence class, and our nurses, physical therapists, and physicians collaborate to develop multidisciplinary protocols for care.”

With these protocols, nurses and physicians can better manage pain and curtail the side effects of anesthesia. Protocols also ensure patients are moving around on their new joints after surgery for maximum outcomes.

ENHANCED EFFICIENCY

Too often, hip and knee replacement patients go home after surgery feeling uncertain about their well-being. At Crittenton, patients and their loved ones receive education before the procedure to help them better understand the surgery and recovery process so they can begin enjoying life with less pain when they return home.
