A Healthy Start for Your Family

Women who may benefit from maternal-fetal or perinatology services include individuals with:

    Crittenton baby being monitored
  • A history of pre-term delivery
  • Advanced (35 and older) or young (19 and younger) age
  • Complicated medical histories
  • Gastrointestinal or kidney disease
  • Genetic concerns
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Previous pregnancy loss

Additional factors, such as multiple gestation (twins or higher-order multiples) or suspected fetal growth problems, may increase the risk for complications during pregnancy.

“Careful monitoring and evaluation of these pregnancies increase the chances of a healthy delivery,” says Deb King, RN, Nurse Manager of Women and Children’s Services at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center. “To make sure the baby’s development is on track, we monitor the health of the expectant mother and her baby through regular screenings.”

Maternal-Fetal Medicine in Your Community

Crittenton offers a wide range of maternal-fetal services, including advanced four-dimensional ultrasound, genetic amniocentesis (for detection of birth defects and chromosome problems) and counseling, fetal echocardiography, and on-site prenatal testing. An on-staff perinatology coordinator is also available to provide follow-up care and answer expectant parents’ questions.

“Our primary objective is to help expectant mothers in the community avoid pre-term deliveries,” says George Kazzi, MD, MBA, FACOG, Medical Director of Perinatology Services at Crittenton. “We’re pleased to provide care for high-risk pregnancies so parents-to-be in the community can access the services they need close to where they live and work.”
