When you were admitted, you were given a seven-digit telephone number. This number is a direct line to your room and should be used by your friends and family when they wish to contact you.
There is a daily charge for your telephone service that will allow you to place unlimited local calls. For daily rate charges, call ext. 5599. If you do not want to use it and be charged for this service, you must call ext. 5599 to discontinue it. Long distance calls will be billed to your home telephone number which may be higher than your normal long distance rates. Calling cards are available for purchase in the gift shop. Public telephones are available in the hospital lobbies and waiting rooms, on the second floor east of the elevator lobby and on each patient unit for your visitors’ convenience.
To make calls from your phone:
To place local calls: Dial 8 + number.
If you are connected to an operator, the call will be billed as a toll or zone call, which is billed at a higher rate. The operator can provide you with the cost before connecting the call.
To place calls outside of the "248" area code (except to Utica and Washington): Dial 8 + 1 + area code + number. These calls are considered long distance and will be routed automatically to the long distance operator. Long distance calls must be made collect, to a third party, or with a phone card. These calls will be billed to your home phone at Sprint exact rates, which may be more than your normal long distance rates. Ask the long distance operator for the current rates when placing your call.
Directory Assistance: Dial 8 + 555 +1212 (Call will be billed to your home phone.)
800 Numbers: Dial 8 + 1 + 800 + number (No charge call.)
Hospital Operator: Dial 0
Sprint Operator: Dial 8 + 0 + 0
